This thread over the past several days is most interesting. I think it
important to note that only a few places are now telling people after a
course that their students are "certified." To do so is unwise. If a test
is given (not always), the instructors have clearly taught to the test.
While this might be appropriate if taking a course, it is NOT the same
thing as being certified by a body INDEPENDENT of the teaching venue.

Board exams (regardless of profession) are administered by a body
independent of the teaching venues precisely to make sure that "teaching to
the test" is not an element in enabling people to pass.

I would be extremely cautious of ANY program (no matter the length: 1 day,
2 days, 3 days, 5 days, 10 days ....) that tells its students after
completion that they are "certified." In my mind, they are not. They have
successfully completed that course, but this is not the same as being
certified.

Put it another way: how many of you would be comfortable with another
professional whose certification was not via a nationally/worldwide
recognized board exam but rather simply because they completed a course at
a particular college/university? Think about it.
