The bottom line is that developmentally the child is not ready to be
away from mom that long (age 2 would be minimum). I have a fact sheet
that my local family court (judge and manager both breastfed their
babies well into toddlerhood and/or beyond) helped me with so we can
go in sounding like the experts we are.
The biggest thing is not to let the breastfeeding become the big
fight. It needs to be about the child's developmental needs, and mom
needs to be ready to talk about what SHE feels is appropriate. The
aggrieved dad often tries to bully his way to what he wants.
