Dear List Members,
A little help please as I am trying to get some relief for a new mom.

4 weeks PP, totally natural birth and baby with her always. No bottles since discharge from hospital.
Mom has very flat nipples and unfortunately did not know this may be an issue until baby had failed to latch well at discharge from hospital( thus the bottles from staff).

Mom has been wearing the Medela soft shields and is getting good results from these. However nipples are still very sore. Lansinoh is helping , but not enough. She has had cracks, blisters and is so so sore.

We have worked on latch and are getting a good 'nipple sandwich' for baby. Baby is sucking/swallowing well, good lip and tongue placement, gaining great and wants to nurse very often. She does seem to clamp down some, and leaves a white stripe on nipple, but not all the time.
We have worked on wide open mouth, deep latch and various holds to ease baby and lessen her jaw a bit, including warm bath, massage.

She is on week 4, little improvement . I mentioned the APNO I have seen mentioned here, and her midwife did not want to prescribe anything. I thought it might fit the 'persistent pain and don' t really know why', however because of the tight jaw and flat nipples I feel that perhaps there can be more to helping this mom out, I am just stumped.

Any input greatly appreciated.
