Oversupply is a cause for frequent plugged ducts and mastitis. Big clue is rapidly gaining baby. Baby doing best s/he can to eat it all. Another clue is reflux, eats all s/he can and gives some back. Block feeding to tamp supply down a little usually helps. Use pump in am until just drops coming, then use one breast for next 6 hours for any feeding. Hand express other breast a little if it gets uncomfortable, then use opposite breast for next 6 hours and so on. Usually takes 2-3 days or possibly a few more to calm supply down. Remember Mother Nature didn't know you didn't have twins :-) When I started doing this - back in the dark ages, moms usually didn't have enough milk. Hospital practices directly contributed to this. Today, there isn't usually much delay in getting the baby to the breast and rooming-in & BFHI all help moms to make plenty. Pat in SNJ
