A recent patient has reported this problem for the second time. It happened
w/ her first child also. We discussed the first experience and she reviewed
her clean technique. but it has now happened again. Thawed milk, stored for
2-3 mos. @ O degrees F. has a "funny, nasty" smell to it. It tastes weird,
bad too. When she offered the bottle of breastmilk to her first before she
recognized the problem, the baby refused to drink it. that's when she tasted
it. She keeps it in a deep freeze, not near any self-defrost fan, nor on the
door(warmer). In fact, the door was seldom opened. She couldn't relate the
taste to another odor in the freezer. and in fact, stored some in glass to
add the protection. Other was stored in double milk bags or plastic bottles.
All the same. She thaws it quickly in warm tap water.
Anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks
