Seems to me if you lower the breastfeeding bar to 4
weeks (as opposed to earlier studies) all you've
proved is "less breastfeeding, more allergies/asthma"
since you're muddying the water with a greater
incidence of mixed feeding. I remember being
encouraged a few years back when researchers in the
area of IQ suggested for purposes of a study they
would consider only "nursing past 9 months" and
"exclusively formula feeding" as groups to compare.
Presumably in an attempt to lose the mixed feed
confusion.

I flipped on FOX today to ready my tape for the Rob
Nelson show on "extended" nursing (check your local
listings!!!) and was treated to the FOX anchor-models
discussing the alleged health risks of breastfeeding.
One woman (one of the "anchors"), a mother, went on
about how much she hates it when "we" (FOX) blow up &
twist the news, how she didn't believe it for a
minute, and that as a mother she just couldn't
tolerate the misrepresentation of breastfeeding. She
smiled the whole time, but the message was clear. The
male anchor said, Yes, this was in contrast with other
studies that reflected different ages, different
amounts of breastfeeding, yes, we play this game for
ratings... So! That's about as refreshing as I'd
hope for on FOX! Can't wait to catch the Rob
Nelson/"extended" nursing thing next...

Susan
