At our hospital we have SEVERAL nurses who have had the intense training for
car seat safety. All of us had to take a 3 hour class taught by them. I am
able to recognize when a parent brings a baby in buckled wrong, if the seat is
improper for that baby, etc. I am NOT the expert. Many babies in my support
group have been in car seats WAY TOO small for them. And unfortunately we
have had Peds have NO knowledge and they have told the parents that seat is ok
for that child! EEEKKK! Law suit waiting to happen if that child is injured in
an accident or worse. Our techs have gone into these offices and educated
the Doctor and his staff.

By becoming certified you will learn what is SAFE and what is NOT. No one
should be putting a roll above the babies head. The blanket rolls can only be
put on the side to support the head if needed. You can put a blanet roll
between babies crotch and anchor buckle on the seat if the baby is tiny and
otherwise fits in the seat, meaning the straps are at the correct level, etc.
Telling a parent to ADD anything to the seat, like the head rests you can buy at the
stores, foam to the seat is setting YOU up for some sort of lawsuit if that
baby gets injured or dies in an accident.

We need to tell the parents that babies belong in the car seat in THE CAR!
Not being carried around, etc. And we can list all of the physical,
development and intelluctual reasons for that.
