If only...........
All our babies are in the nursery from 6am until the pediatricians round, or
9am, whichever comes first. Then, the babies go out at 9, but are returned
to the nursery for the pedi visit if not seen in the am. It is not ok to
keep a pedi waiting, so babies are literally popped off the breast at a
moment's notice. We have a "choir" everyday also.
Dr. Gordon, you are an exception.
This is in a hospital with about 88% initiation, and a client population
that demands lactation consultants. Does anyone keep statistics on the
expected percentage of babies, full-term not NICU, that will lose 10% of
birthweight? I suspect that we have a higher rate than reasonable due to
seperations, but I haven't found any source for statistics. Thanks in
advance for any information.

This is a disturbing post. The babies should have been out with their
mothers breastfeeding. Truly disturbing.
