This is the textof the letter I am sending out on Nov. 10 to that
same doll company. I believe this is one FIGHT we should all get into.
Did we not all play with them at some point in childhood? I had several and
my favorite was Tiny Tears, but it did not come with a bottle, or at least
I lost it fairly soon, as I recall. My other one, which my mother lovingly
made all kinds of doll clothes for, included a wedding dress was "ruined"
according to her when I chopped off her shoulder-lneght hair to a near the
ear lobes bob! Hm...

Anyway, here is what I am sending... (I will let you all know if I recieve
a reply).

Dear Ms. Rowland:

I recall with great fondness the dolls I played with as a young child. As
a future grandmother, I am looking forward to contributing to my
granddaughter's collection as soon as possible [LACTNETters ATTENTION: My
son is not married, but I can certainly DREAM of becoming a grandmother in
the future! :-)]

However, the dolls that most manufacturers produce are not on my list of
potential purchases. WHy? Because they support an unhealthful way of
feeding babies--by bottle-feeding!

I am sure you are aware of the serious health consequences of artificial
feeding, which includes, but is not limited to reduced intelligence,
increased likelihood of childhood cancer, increased likelihood of childhood
onset diabetes, increased risk of ear infections with subsequent
hospitalization for insert of tubes to prevent further hearing impairment,
increased risk of death from diarrhea, fulminating infections, and the
like.

I have been told that one or more of the dolls in your New Baby collection
will soon be distributed without the offending bottles.

Kindly inform me if this rumor is correct and where in my area I might look
for this/these new dolls.

I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible. Thank you for your
time and attention and be aware that I will be most happy to publicize the
availability of your dolls to the more than 5,000 subscribers to a
professional journal with which I am affiliated, the readers of whom work
with new mothers and babies every day. [PS I won't use JHL this way, but
they need not know that!]

                                                Sincerely, ....
