Thanks to those of you who responded with info about progesterone use to
maintain a pregnancy and continuing to breastfeed.
The woman's doctor "came clean" when confronted with correct information;
he wants her to wean in order to prevent miscarriage. I can't decide if
this is an attempt to get her to wean her 9 mo "by hook or by crook", or if
he really fears the loss of this pregnancy. Possibly the latter, because
the mother says she does have a history of miscarriage.
She and her husband realize that they have to weigh which child to
"protect", and will feel guilty no matter what decision they make. At the
suggestion of the ped., dad tried to give their son some abm, and the baby
took one mouthful and spewed it all over his father! The baby got upset and
nursing was the only thing that would soothe him.
What information (references or personal accounts) can you share about bf
through a pregnancy when the woman has a history of miscarriage? I know of
the article in JHL a few years back, and will share that with the mother.
