i also thought of severed nerves but then someone pointed out correctly that
early lactation or lactogenesis II is governed by the endocrine, not
autocrine, system. or maybe the mom did experience a mild, transient
fullness which was sort of overlooked, and then the autocrine system didn't
kick in due to the severed nerves.
however, perhaps you need to look for horses, not zebras. it could be
retained placenta. i don't remember the original post, so not sure what
other mommy or baby factors might play a part.
