I am in private practice and have received a letter from a law firm
requesting all medical records and itemized receipts for a client who I saw about a
month ago. I am not sure how to handle this. I just called the mom and she
said, "Oh yes, I am giving you verbal permission to send them all the records.
I am suing the driver who hit me" Apparently she was in an auto accident
when she was still pregnant, went into premature labor at 35 weeks and was told
by some poorly informed person that she "would not be able to breastfeed
because the baby would be too weak to suck at the breast and would only be able
to take a bottle." So, when I saw her, she was using a nipple shield, baby
was gaining and growing appropriately at 2.5 mos. I showed her how to wean
from shield, how to use different positions, and made some other appropriate
recommendations for increasing the amount that the baby was getting at a
feeding. Faxed report to doc, care plan to her and did not hear back till now.
Is this okay for me to do? Doesn't feel quite right... Thanks, Ann
