Hi all,
I just had a mom call me wondering if I had ever heard of her
experience happening to anyone else. I hadn't, so I thought I'd ask all
of you.
She went into premature labor at 33 weeks and was given Procardia and
Magnesium Sulfate to stop the contractions. She has also been on
steroids about once a week. The labor stopped, but a few days later she
noticed what appeared to be mild engorgement with a few areas of
"rock-like" lumpiness in her breasts. She stated that she was able to
express white milk. This "engorgement" lasted about 5 - 6 hours and now
her breasts are soft again. She was worried that this might mean that
she won't get her milk in when the baby is actually born. I told her
that the main stimulus for milk production was the sudden drop in
hormones caused by the delivery of the placenta, and since the baby was
still unborn and the placenta was still in place, that she should still
have milk when that happens. Has anyone else ever heard of anything like
this happening? What would cause it?
        Thanks,
