I need information to pass along to my hospital board as I approach IBCLC
certification this summer. They have asked several questions, and if
anyone can help me with answers, I would appreciate it.
First, I would like to know what type of programs LC's have in place,
either before or after discharge (like BF groups, weight checks, etc); this
would help me have ideas to suggest for the future. Also, they want to
know if the post-discharge programs are charged for, the best way to go
about this (like CPT codes, etc.), and what rate of reinbursement is
typically seen, either inpatient and outpatient.
Second, if anyone has information about joint commission's view of the
necessity and role of IBCLC's, I thought that would be the way to go in
explaining the need to employ a LC. I am basically having to justify the
benefits of having an IBCLC, and/or the finances that I would be able to
generate.
I need to compile this information before the meeting on Tues (3/12). If
anyone can help me with this, please feel free to contact me personally.
Thank you,
Margaret Pierce, RN, CLC
