We have been doing hourly rounding for a couple of years now. Any of us can do them. The nurse does not have to go in if I have just been in the room. I need to write on the hourly rounding sheet (which I forget to do frequently). That will cut down on how many of us are in and out of the room. We have PCA's who work to assist the RNs and they can do the rounding also. As do the CNA's once a day. We are a big unit doing nearly 500 births a month so I would never be able to see more than 13 or so moms a day and less if they are having major problems. I only see the big issues. And today 6 of those moms were not seen as I was there 13 hours and had to leave. So I left feeling very badly and in hopes someone is covering for me tomorrow.

We do the best we can, don't we? And there is little more we can do. Hope the mother's want to nurse badly enough they call for a follow up. Today I squeezed 3 moms in as outpatients. 2 were serious issues.

Never enough time.
