I have a queriey over expressed breast milk storage. On our NICU we store
fresh or cold thawed breast milk in the fridge for no more than 24 hours.

A few days ago, I discovered a leaflet on the unit which suggested 5 - 8 days
was ok (?!!). Also, I attended a study day today and was horrified to find
this was done in the USA (5 - 8 day storage). Does this not result in bacteria
build up?? Does anyone know of any research into this. We are following
guidelines of our infection control department.

Also, what times does everyone use for storing EBM in a freezer or at room
temperature??

Many thanks
