Thanks to all who have responded on this issue. I am glad I'm
not the only one who "jumps" to "sex abuse".
The varied ways mentioned of handling this kind of situation
are
helpful.

I am not familiar with this kind of effect on women's nervous
systems...thank you for bringing it up!
I am wondering then, would this kind of reaction be limited
to Methadone, or include ALL street drugs? What kind of time
lag would there be for the mom (assuming she had stopped
before delivery)? Is it a result of the actual drug(s) in the
mother's system or an effect of addiction?

Have there been any recent studies on how mothers who
are/have been addicted to street drugs do with breastfeeding,
and how their infants fare?
