In "Breastfeeding Matters", Maureen Minchen suggested to a woman with a
marginal supply that she pump in the morning for an evening bottle. That
has turned out to be the solution for a client of mine.

The client had greater than average blood loss at birth and a baby with no
sucking reflex at birth, a ketone smell on day 2(!), a cheek-hollowing suck
thereafter with no weight gain until supplemented. Mom gradually brought
her supply up with pumping and fenugreek, and phased baby off an SNS over 2
months. But whether it's baby's suck or mom's supply, the baby has
continued to be dissatisfied in the evening. So she pumps once in the am
(when she can pump 4 oz) and offers it once in the evening. Baby has been
off formula sups for several weeks now, but still clearly needs the evening
boost. It's a solution that works for both of them, and I have Maureen's
1989 book to thank for it :-)
