# since this baby isn't thriving everyone is in a tailspin. How is baby
developmentally? On target? Active? /---/ Only talk with the supportive
pedi! Ask pedi to explore why this baby is having so much trouble with
ordinary things. The fact that it includes potatoes and rice seems to
eliminate celiac disease, but it still needs to be officially eliminated as
cause. Check baby's iron /---/ This baby probably wouldn't do well with
vitamins (or does she do OK with them?) #

The pedi had nothing negative to say, the baby is active and ok otherwise,
except that the weight gain isnt exactly what they would like it to be.
Good suggestion about checking for the celiac. The iron levels were normal,
as well as calsium. They dont recommend over here any other vitamins except
vitamin D (hey, we live far north), and that hasnt caused problems.

# the Mom that she ask the nutritionist for HER references. This puts the
burden of proof back where it should be! #

Actually the mother had called back to the nutritionist, and calmly in a
nonchalant way asked her for the refs, "Could please tell me where... as I
have had the impression that..." The nutritionist said in a not-so-nice
tone of the voice, that she is very busy, and she doesnt have time for
such, it might take weeks to dig up the refs. She changed email addresses
with the mom unwillingly, reminding again that she is very busy.

# GI doc tested his stool and noticed a bug. #

Hmm, I have heard of similar type of cases, good point.

The mother was today at the hospital in order to have the epicutan patch
test results checked. No strong skin reactions (no blisters, no broken
skin), but reactions anyway (red rash). She didnt have a change to see
their pedi, but the nurse informed her that from now on, they wont focus on
screening the allergies but the malnutrition!! The nutritionist had called
the pedi can you tell. The nurse claimed the red rash isnt "enough" to
prove it is allergy to these foods they tested. (The mother knows it isnt
quite as simple). The pedi will call her later on.

We know a couple of other kids with a similar slow weight gain pattern, and
their nutritionists werent the least worried. The mother is seeking for a
second opinion for that.

Btw, her first child was one of those "michelin men" / "buddhas". The
mother pointed that out to the nutritionist (How could the milk have been
"good" then and "poor" now), and that she herself (the mom) has always
since childhood been slender type (I would guess her BMI is around 18-19),
and suggested the genes might be a part in her baby's slow weight gain. The
nutritionist didnt react to that at all. The good news is that this baby
hasnt had a single bout of diarrhea for about four weeks now.

Thanks so much for all the messages and good suggestions!!

PS. I am still asking if anyone happens to have the WHO study / WHO doc
WHO/CDR/93.4 results in g/ml and kcal/ml instead of percentages? (31 % of
daily energy needs, 38 % of daily protein, etc..)
