I believe that discussions of specific brands of pumps puts an LC in
tricky legal ground. If you blast or say something bad about a specific
pump and that particular pump company just "happens" to see it, you
could set yourself up for a lawsuit. While the probability may be slim
that this could happen, it is a distinct possibility in the U.S.A.

If on the other hand you say something wonderful about a particular pump
and you also sell that product(what I said in previous post), you are
indirectly acting like a sales person for that company. Doctors may
talk about a particular brand of drugs but usually he/she sends the
client to a pharmacy to buy that particular drug. Usually the doctor
does not directly benefit from that sale.

I worked with a client who was using one of the best pumps out there.
She had sore nipples--the red rings I talked about in previous post.
She could not get the baby to the breast, that's why I was there. So I
know the baby didn't do it. Watching her use the pump, I pointed out
that the nipple opening was too tight and that she needed a different
flange. She said to me that the pump couldn't be causing the soreness
because it was the best pump available. She dismissed the soreness
because she believed soreness is a normal condition when you
breastfeed/pump. Valerie W. McClain, IBCLC
