Hi Penny
Here are a couple ideas: first, I know they are trying to get the baby to
gain weight, but I would not worry much about a 7 month old who is not
interested in solids. In fact, putting the spoon to the baby when he's at
the breast, sounds a little pushy and will likely be
counterproductive.Iknow they are very worried, but "forcing" the issue
in any way, usually
works to make the baby even more resistant.
You said the grandmother feels baby might be hungry, could he be crying
often and sucking his hands? You also said mom has lots of milk. therefore,
could this be oversupply like we've been talking about? Meaning the baby
wants to eat, but nursing is uncomfortable. Ya'll could look into this
aspect.
Does the baby use a pacifier? If he feeds every 3 hrs, this is not
necessarily a problem, but in the face of poor wt gain, perhaps he is cueing
to feed more often but not getting responded to. You said he feeds more at
night, could that be that mother is more available and immediately responds
at night. Also, feeding more frequently, possibly using one side in a 4 hr
period, could help if it's oversupply and too much foremilk.
Any scheduling program being followed, an baby training philosophy going on?
Of course, the baby could have an organic and not a bf-management, problem,
so I do think that has to be kept in mind.
