Jan asks "how do we get Drs. to " rethink clipping frenulums?
I once was called to a home visit by a new set of parents. Mom had sore
nipples. (mom and dad are both anestheologists) Quickly observed that baby
had tight frenulum and suggested clipping.
Dad looked surprised, and announced (surprise to his wife) that he had his
frenulum clipped when he was 12 years old due to he "couldn't get his tongue"
to play the horn correctly!
They called their ped and she said it was not "medically necessary." and did
not recommend it. "Lets wait and see if baby has speech problems at age 2 -
4."
I called Dr. Jain in Canada and ordered her video on a tight frenulum.
Showed this to the couple and to a dentist friend. The frenulum was clipped
and bfing resumed without problems.
Solution: when it happens to their baby, it is a different matter.
Hopefully, they will all pass their experience along to their dr. friends.
