I work in a NICU, and interesingly, we have had several premies (under 32
weeks) of Mom's post GPB Surgery in the past 6 weeks. Their surgery was 2
to 3 years ago. So far, none of them have been able to produce more than
very smallamounts of milk despite an excellent pumping schedule (on a
quality breastpump) and kangaroo care when able. I am always sure to ask
if mom has had reconstruction, as some women have their breasts (and of
course other body parts) lifted and tucked after their weight loss.
I am anxiously waiting to see how a personal friend of mine does with
breastfeeding. She has successfuly breastfeed her 2 daughters, now 13 and
6 years old). She had GBP 3 years ago (not planning any more children),
and at the age of 39, is due again this fall. I will keep you posted.
