We have standard BF orders for all of the docs who come to our hospital.
Hypoglycemia protocol is a part of these standing orders. To quote from
standing orders:

"For blood sugar of 30-40, breastfeed immediately and recheck blood sugar.
Notify doctor if <40.

If blood sugar <20, notify doctor STAT and give formula supplement until further
orders from physician."

NOTE: We use cup feeding for our BF babies who need supplement, for whatever
reason, unless the parents prefer the bottle. If levels are low, we often pump
mother and cup or dropper feed the colostrum to baby. A small amount can make a
large difference.
