Recently at a meeting the issue of baby bottle tooth decay was discussed.
Usually the discussion of this disease focuses on babies who use bottles
but one of the handouts I saw addressed breastfeeding babies and it
stated that babies who breastfeed throughout the night are also at risk.
I know that human milk also contains lactose and so in theory there could
be something to this but I have never heard it discussed before. I was
wondering if human milk contains properties that protect against this.
Does anyone know? We have clients in our program who breastfeed a lot at
night and have never had it come up...or are we just missing it. I heard
that about 25% of all babies suffer from this.
