I'm discovering that it is a rare mother and baby who get out of hospital
without having had antibiotics. When they say they haven't I sometimes have
had them check it out and, sure enough, there it was.

The only babies I've worked with in the past three months that we were sure
didn't have abx were ones born at home. And yeast overgrowth is RAMPANT! I
had a mom stop breastfeeding yesterday who was overwhelmed with the onset of
a yeast infection. Granted, she wasn't as committed as some I work with, but
I believe that without the yeast she would have stuck it out untill she fell
in love with it.

And the reasons for the abx are legion--from c-sec to "just 'cause" and "why
not?" I'm thinking of starting all of the moms I work with on acidipholus
and garlic from the day I begin working with them. One mom agreed to do
this and she didn't develop an overgrowth of yeast. I know that not all
moms who have abx go on to have yeast infections, but most do. Don't you
find that to be true? Or is it just in Milwaukee?
