I'm working with a 35-year old woman who has a 2-year old son. She had
silicone implants about 10 years ago and required Domperidone to produce
adequate milk for ds. She and dh would like to have more children and she
has had hormone evals (both blood and saliva) indicating that she is not
ovulating. Saliva testing indicates every-other-day estrogen surges which
is most puzzling. About 2 weeks ago, she D/C'd the Domperidone and the
little one's response was...you guessed...increased nighttime nursing. She
is wondering (and so am I) if the 2 years of Domperidone use will mean a
longer return to normalcy for her hormones and, if so, should she "go with
the flow" with the nighttime nursing or try to encourage weaning during
those hours?

She follows a vegetarian diet and is allergic to soy, (IMHO) is underweight
for her height and also exercises about an hour each day. The dietitian in
me goes for these latter issues and affects on fertility, but the
Domperidone question is intriguing since I have never had or known anyone
taking it continuously for 2 years. Any thoughts, wise ones?

TIA,
Rebecca DeYoung Daniels, MBA, RD, LD, IBCLC
