When I was a student midwife, after two weeks of classroom theory (none of
which had yet covered attachment), I was sent on my first rotation to the
wards. On day two or three or my clinical experience, a midwife asked me to
"go and help that mother attach the baby". When I said I didn't know how,
she looked at me as though I had two heads. And told me to go and try
anyway!
Later in the course we received more education on breastfeeding and
attachment, but now I am in the situation of the more I learn, the more I
realise how little I know
