My few prenatal classes are usually with just a mom or mom and partner. I simply have a sheet with a list of words in alphabetical order, including baths, birth plan, bottle, circumcision, depression, diapers, diet, engorgement, father, jaundice, La Leche League, pacifier, playgroups, pumping, schedule, sleep, spoiling - all kinds of words (a total of about 40). I put out my own "props" - DVDs, books, a plastic hamburger, and so on that *I* want to make sure I touch on, and we just use the words to stimulate questions from the mom or to remind her of what she wanted to ask, and the props to remind me what not to forget to cover.

I may start with the parts that I especially want to cover, if she doesn't have burning issues that *she* wants to start with, but it's just a casual, unstructured back and forth from then on. I've started including a copy of Breastfeeding Made Simple in the cost. Where I used to give a folder full of handouts to all my pre- and post-birth clients, I'm starting to give a CD of handouts instead - more info at lower cost, and way easier to put together.

Of course I'd love to talk about every word on the list, but of course we don't, and of course we talk about lots that's not on the sheet, and I modify my list of words afterwards if she came up with some topics I hadn't thought of. It seems to work :-)
