DHA can also be found in cold-water =fish such as salmon, mackerel, trout, sardines, tuna, and fish oils =(wild fish caught in uncontaminated waters are best). LA (linoleic =acid) rich foods are safflower oil, sunflower seed oil, soybean oil, and =sesame seed oil. These oild are best if unrefined and cold pressed. =Beware of transfats where these good oils are changed in the unnatural =heating process to be harmful. Trans fats exist in most fast food, =fried food, most packaged chips, cookies, margarine and shortening. =It's gotten much easier to find these items with "no trans fats" as many =companies are trying to do better, thankfully.I have no problems talking to mothers about healthy eating during =breastfeeding. There is a real thirst out there for ways to improve =health. Depleted Mother Syndrome is a real problem out there, and =improving nutrition is one way to improve overall physical and mental =well being. Mothers who eat well themselves are more likely to feed =their children better during weaning and beyond. This question was asked by a very worriedmom, whose baby was very ill and in and out of the hospital her first yearof life with a serious gastrointestinal bug that really zapped her. She now,is still nursing 2 times a day..and her mother is eager to know ~exactly~ asin ounces, her little girl needs to consume to achieve the above. Doesanyo
ne have any idea? I know Dr. Jack says that immunities are actuallyhigher the second year, but this did not technically answer her question.Thank you,Mary Anderson***********************************************To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomailTo start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest)To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnetAll commands go to [log in to unmask] LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renownedLISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R)mailer for lightning fast mail delivery. The body donverts LNA into DHA. >>though it's a very inefficient process. humans are probably meant toget long chain omega 3's from fish oil. the whole algal DHA thing isabsolutely frightening to me. I'm all about the 'whole'<trout, sardines, tuna, and fish oils (wild fish caught in uncontaminatedwaters are best).>>Wild salmon, sardines and anchovies are about it for me in terms ofsafety. many people find sardines and/or anchovies unpalatable whichleaves wild salmon. Pricewise, it's out of range for many people. While the 'safe fish'/food route is optimal, Molecularly distilledfish oil is a cost effective, safe, toxin free route that most peoplecan afford. The fish oil at Sam's/Costco are molecularly distilled, arevery fresh b/c of the high turnover and at $$7.99/$6.99 for *300*standard strength caps are in the price range that a significant numberof persons can afford.<nutrition is one way to improve overall physical and mental well being.>>absolutely. I've just read an absolutely fabulous book by Raffelockand Rountree on Postpartum Health and Recovery. will have to look upthe name. It was really really good.Very few US mothers would need additional high omega six oils/sources(nuts/seeds and their oils) but many will be very deficient in longchain omega 3 EFA's.the oils we get from nuts and seeds are important, but not really to berelied upon for DHA/EPA sufficiency.Katherine in atl***********************************************To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomailTo start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest)To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnetAll commands go to [log in to unmask] LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renownedLISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R)mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
