I've been a lurker for a while and this is my first post, so I'm hopeful
this topic has not been overdone or have a really obvious answer. I've
recently encountered two or three moms who told me that their newborn
refuses to drink breastmilk from a bottle, but will happily drink formula
from a bottle. One of these moms has newborn twins, and the baby girl will
supposedly drink breastmilk in a bottle, but the baby boy will only drink
formula. After racking my brain, I cannot figure out what is going on. Are
these moms making things up or misinterpreting their babies, or perhaps
coming up with an excuse to formula feed? I realize mom's diet could
possibly affect her milk, particularly in terms of dairy, soy etc. However,
even in that case, could the newborn really discern this connection and opt
for formula? Also, breastmilk tastes so much better than formula - why
would any newborn prefer formula? And I should mention that none of these
moms were freezing their milk - I believe they were all placing freshly
expressed milk in a bottle - so a lipase issue seems moot. Thanks for
shedding some light for me, as I'm sure others have encountered this
situation as well.
