Hi all,

I just saw the Lansinoh Breastfeeding Collection in my local Walmart! I
think it’s exciting to see breastfeeding so prominent in a "mainstream"
setting. They have about 20 products including "excellent" hand pumps,
nursing bras, pads, etc, (and of course, a wonderful selection of books.)
:) I heard they purposely do not offer electric pumps and the instructions
on the hand pumps say for "engorgement and occasional separation from
baby." The LLL influence is very evident.

An article in the Washington Post last week expressed some negativity from
lactation consultants who see it as "dangerous" and a way for women to get
products without good advice. This doesn’t bother me because, after all,
mothers have been able to get breastfeding products from other stores all
along without any advice. (Is it "dangerous" to order breastfeeding
products from the LLL catalog?) I don’t see it in any way negative. I see
it as a gigantic promotion for breastfeeding. I see it as a giant step
forward in the corporate world. MILLIONS of people shop in Walmarts per
week, and a lot of them are young mothers!

Any comments?

Pam Wiggins, IBCLC, in snowy VA.
