One possible explanation of babies arching away from the breast or
aggressively refusing breast is that there was significant birth trauma.
Recently, I saw a baby who appeared normal until one touched the baby's
head. This baby had been vacuum-extracted and could not tolerate even a
feather touch. As it turns out, the mom was trying to latch baby on while
firmly holding the head. This baby eventually nursed well, but only in a
sling withouth mom holding the head.
