Both Rachel and Nina quite nicely illustrated the second part of my talk... which is why all
the change must not be placed on mom and guilt should really be shifted to those who
withdrew the support and need to rebuilt it. Until such time as every health worker in ANY
FUNCTION fully understands the implications of breastfeeding, until such time as babies are
given full freedom to breastfeed anywhere they want, until such time that mothers are
given adequate parental leave, until such time that mothers are permitted to bring their
babies to work or to express milk for their babies, until such time that every baby has full
access to HUMAN milk, until such time that mothers have not experienced sexual abuse,....
the onus should be on those who support mothers to assist them to create as normal an
infant feeding experience as possible.

So, there will be a big BUT..... in my talk!

Best, Susan Burger, MHS, PhD, IBCLC
