Therese,

I met a mom 4 years ago. This is her story. She was severely burned as a
child. Both breast. The nipples were reconstruced from vulva tissue. She went
through 18 seperate surgeries throughout the years. When she became pregnant
with her first, about age 24, she very much wanted to breastfeed but did not
think it possible nor did everyone else. Three days after her baby was born,
her breast started to drip. She told me that the surgeon couldn't believe his
eyes. Everyone else was amazed as well. She began to put baby to breast. She
went on to breastfeed but supply was a problem. With baby #2, she had the help
of a wonderful and very knowledgeable lactation consultant, who may want to
identify herself from this list. She was able to reach full supply with baby
#2 which she attributed to early start and help from Lactation Consultant. I
was with her for baby #3. I attended the birth and mostly watched as the
mother taught me.

Check to see what age your mom was burned. Part of the success of this case
was reasoned to be that her breast had not yet started to develop therfore
ducts were spared.

Mom did experience some tauntness on her nipples, but other than that, she did great.
