When I worked in a practice with 6 peds, here is what I wanted, and they
indeed, did refer to me.

1-any mom at 1 or 2 week check up with ??
2-all breastfed children at 2 weeks not up to birth wt
3-any bfd child with newborn jaundice
4-anyone with latch problems
5-management of thrush
Many times these were brief visits in the room not all out consults. Also,
many times over phone.

I also took most nurse calls that anything to do with breastfeeding...the
triage nurses just forwarded the calls on to me.

They looked to me for info on weaning, supplementing, refusal to take bottles
etc.

Of course, I was working as an RN in this office at the same time, so I was
quite "handy" and used frequently. Now, they still refer quite a few
patients to my private practice, but obviously not as many.
