Jean, your news of the up-coming short-course AZT-and-formula study in South
Africa is horrifying. I see this as the beginning of the end. You wrote,
"The babies will be given free formula for 6 months and Bactrim (antibiotic)
from 6 weeks to 15 months. 50% of the cost of this programme will be the
purchase of formula. Based on Dr Gray's study in Soweto, the feeling is that
an increase in diarrhoea due to lack of breastfeeding will not be an issue!!"

Firstly, I have been trying to lay my hands on a copy of this study forever!
Where can we get hold of it?

Secondly, if all the babies need to receive Bactrim from 6 weeks to 15
months then someone somewhere must think they are at risk for some kind of
infection!
Or perhaps there is another reason for the Bactrim???

Thirdly, who is funding this exercise?

Pamela Morrison IBCLC, Zimbabwe (shuddering at the long-term implications of
this "research" being conducted in a neighbouring country).
