I would like some input on a phone call I got. I will most likely not be
seeing this mom, but may suggest she see an LC. She is an experienced mom,
second baby, in fact is a LLL Leader Applicant and is very knowledgeable, has
tried many things. The baby is almost 6 weeks old and has been "screaming
since day one". She understands the difference between fussiness and
screaming, states her first child was high-need, but was OK with carrying,
etc. This child is not. She states that the baby begins screaming after let-
down, pulls off and screams off and on during entire feeding and screams after
feeding until she falls asleep. She has tried eliminating many things from
her diet, with no success. She has also explored the possibility of
oversupply/overactive letdown and does not think this is the problem. The
baby does not spit up and is gaining very well, but not excessively.

From what she says, her pediatrician is treating this as an overly-worried mom
with a colicky baby and reassures her that it should get better soon. She
feels this is more than colic and it sure sounds like it to me. I have
suggested she ask her pedi. to work the baby up for reflux. (searched
archives and am overwhelmed by amount of material, will try to sort through
it). Yeast has also been explored. Mom does not have sore nipples. Can
anyone think of any other suggestions? Miriam
