This is so interesting to me. My children always loved to sit right up  
against me or on my lap at meal times - Finn still does occasionally.  
And when all three of them were old enough to sit alone and feed  
themselves they would indulge my mother-in-law and let her spoon feed  
them - which while a barrier - at that age created a closeness. I  
think they knew she needed this. Sometimes if you come to my house you  
might find 4 or 5 of us in a bunch on the couch. It all makes sense.
