I did run and it is lovely to see all the work that went into this, and think
of all the people who might learn something this August about breastfeeding.
However I was a little depressed thinking that for the third year in a row,
since I became IBCLC I have not been allowed to attend Career Day at my
children's school, unless I am willing to talk about my other career as a
Physical Therapist. The principal very gently barred me, the main office was
aghast I ever wanted to talk about it, and the District Office would be even
worse. The NYS Ed guidelines for integrating BF into the curriculum from K-12
have never even been heard of in this school, other than my mentioning them,
which gets me that "tolerant" look - since I run the book fair and I have
"easy" kids to teach who bring up the school's score card, the school would
never deliberately infuriate me openly. There is almost no breastfeeding going
on in this school, although I supported one mom all the way into toddlerhood.
( There are about 700 children in this school) Sometimes I get really tired
of being thought of as a lunatic all the time, or is that a "galactic"? How
are other breastfeeding experts and supporters putting WBW on this year? Feel
free to email me privately if this is too much for the List.
