Hi All,

We also have been seeing moms discharged from the local hospital with APNO. I am, admittedly, quite a purist about putting anything in or on a nursing mom or baby but this use seems excessive to me, especially as many of the moms I have followed had no problems that I could see that would warrant even lanolin. I reserve APNO for mothers who have cracked nipples that are not healing, a rare occasion. I do worry about unnecessary exposure to cortisone and antibiotic as well. I wonder why the sudden surge in use? What are the indications and/or rationales that you have seen for such early use?

Best,
