Hemoglobin from red blood cells breaks down into various components for
recycling in the body. One is heme, and I believe it is green. (remember
the 'green' phase bruises undergo while resolving-between blue and
yellow?)

Perhaps she has a papilloma or some such, high up in the ductal tree that
bled during the build-up of colostrum during the last half of pregnancy,
and the heme from it could be the cause of the green? Same principle as
rusty pipe syndrome, but further up in the ductal system??? If still
actively bleeding, I would not think this would continue to show up
green, or even show up to the naked eye at all, as it becomes diluted by
mature milk and moved through the ductal system so much faster than in
pregnancy/initiation of breastfeeding. Just a thought. I think past
discussions on this may be in the archives too.
