It is my policy to have moms pump even asap after dilivery (give birth,
controls, wash and clean and bring to ward, then pump) and afterwards as often
as the baby would/should breastfeed *if it's clear <<from start on>> that baby
will not be able to suckle at all in the first days* for whatever reason. This
will not bring her selfesteem down, if it's made clear to mom that in this way
she is doing all she can to help her baby get better/bigger/stronger/whatever.
Her body is not letting her down, she is just doning it in a different way.

Yes, agreed, and since a pump is not nearly as effective as a baby, pumping
should even more start early and go on frequently.
