Lately I have been seeing babies that have all the classic physical
characteristics of tongue tie...a "small indentation" at the tip...tongue
can't extend or stay extended pass the lower gum line. Moms having barely no
nipple left and poor transfer of milk which leads to nipple infections and
mastitis, etc. Yet I see no frenelum at all. What I do see is something that
is small in diameter that is white, mucusy and flat on the bottom on the
mouth inbetween the lower gums yet closer to where a tight frenelum would be
attached. But instead of seeing a white band between the floor of the mouth
lining up against the underneath of the tongue. It is strictly on the floor
of the mouth. I wanted to hear your opinion first on what you think this may
be. The damage to the nipples in these cases are unbelieveably the worst
that I have seen and again, little to no transfer of milk. What may I be
missing here? I am very good at recognizing postier ties. Is this a case
where the moms needs an oral surgeon or just a better lactation management
with suck training, time and positioning? Thank you.
