Recently the mother found several containers of milk that was still
liquid after three days in the freezer.  ...  The mother feared the milk
was unsafe and discarded it.

I would have her put on of those maximum-minimum thermometers in the
freezer and check it every day for several days. It may be that her
defrost cycle is a little too warm.
