Thanks, Laurie and Kathy for valuable words in defence of hungry babies.
It all seemed so obvious once you said it, that the baby will be
experiencing hunger from birth.  Oh dear, dry mouth from not being fed
sounds awful!

Having said that, I will still urge my antenatal clients to be providing
breast milk in whatever way they can, and working somehow with my
colleagues not to offer artificial milk as the first option when
breastfeeding doesn't seem to be going well.
