Dear Lactnet Friends:

2 studies, one with 96 subjects (Alexander) and one with 430 (MAIN
collaborative trial) found that diagnosing women with flat or inverted
nipples and treating during pregnancy resulted in less breastfeeding at 6
weeks by the women receiving treatment.

This study of 90 women had a different result.

I wonder what the significance of treatment in pregnancy for problem
nipples in cultures where breastfeeding is NOT the norm, versus treatment
in Thailand, where breastfeeding IS the norm, account for the different
results.

What do you all think?

warmly,
