I think whether the mother should accept a free pump depends at least in
part on the pump that is available. If it is the Ross "Deluxe" breast
pump kit, with the enormous holes that such half of the breast into it,
I would think it would do mor harm than good.
I run into people who say they can't afford the Lact-Aid too. What they
don't realize, and often don't want to accept, is that a small
investment that will help provide more breastmilk for the baby will
ultimately save them money. Even if they do have access to free
formula, it will save them money on doctor visits, antibiotics, missed
work days, etc..
