Hi Alexandra,

I did this with my own daughter at 6 1/2 months after her palate repair (she was born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate). My duaghter did breastfeed some up to her operation but went on a nursing strike for two weeks and I used the strategies in the ABA booklet that Karleen mentions ie. an SNS applied normally and a nursing shield taped on over the top (a walking bottle in other words):) ).

Strategies for nursing strikes may be useful if the baby is not interested in latching (bathing together, skin to skin) and they could also try something similar to self-led latching (mother with bare chest, baby stripped down to nappy/diaper) f the baby is not interested in latching.

With the Pierre Robin/micrognathia you may need to pay extra attention to how the baby latches on but I haven't experience with small chins,

On my website you will find links to mothers' stories (one of a boy with micrognathia) and a link to the ABA booklet. Feel free to contact me if I can help you at all.
