My oldest son had geographic tongue when he was about six months old.  That
was 25 years ago.  We never had any complications, either me or him, although
he seemed to have it for a very long time.  I worried at first that it was
yeast but it never had any of the symptoms.  Then a doctor seem to know that
it was the geo tongue and was nothing to worry about.  I never knew why he
had it.  Hope this helps somewhat.
